Post subject: | I get low framerate and poor texture quality....suggestions? |
Hello, I've just recently installed TC on RTCW:ET, (ET patched to 2.6 and TC 0.49) and was very suprised to see <20-30 FPS at 1024*768. Not having played a Q3 engine based game for some time, I figured that I'd be smoking along with a dual opteron rig, 2GB Ram, 6600GT w 128Mb, but alas no. All drivers are new, Forceware 91.21, Realtek AC97 from 10/2006..etc. But all I get are fairly blocky/pixelated textures, no apparent AA, and the slow framerate. I've turned the graphics as far as she'll go captain, but she cannae hold it together... Suggestions (appart from ditching the Scottie impression). |

I would guess and say driver update? Check all your drivers. |

Try running it on 1 core by disabling the second core when playing the game. Then make sure you have your drivers updated not just the videocard driver. Get a dxdiag of your system and upload it, then link it to here. |

This post is kind of still on topic with the frame rates. I asked ingame, of how I could change my FPS (Frames Per Second) to something better besides 90 FPS. It was always a constant 90 FPS and I used to get a better FPS with other video games. While ingame, I was given a code to punch into the console, I forgot what the code was, but now my FPS is 100-220 with it jumping to 300 occasionally, which is great! Now the question I have is what is this code, so that others can increase their FPS also? And another thing, if somebody changes theirs and it just gets worse or something, how can they change it back? |

Turn off vertical sync or anykind of monitor frequency syncronization. I get rates between 80-150 never higher or lower and usualy at a steady 100. Just type the same code again or if it has a boolean value, 1 turns it on, 0 turns it off. |

The question was, what is the code? I do not know it. It was posted and I applied it, I did not write it down. |

/com_maxfps 300 |

That would let you get framrates up to 300 but not necessarily increase it to that amount if you computer wasnt really designed to reache that amount. |

From reading this post, I recall that I was told to use Code: /com_maxfps 0
now the question is, what is the default code for those that need to change it back to the original? I am pretty happy with my 100 frames per second and above, but having my frames per second set to that does make the max FPS inconsistent. Is it a bad thing? |

Yes having fps that jumps all over is a bad thing, that is what the vertical sync is for. It matches the max fps with the monitor's frequency/refresh rate. This prevetns tearing and artifacts for forming but at the expense of performance. |

and for the default, afaik, as long as you don't put com_maxfps in the shortcut just open up et/tce then go in the console and hit /com_maxfps without any numbers, and it'll show the default number. (if it's what you set it to, go into regular ET and do it) |

Post subject: | Apologies for the monster post...DXDIAG included |
Apologies up front. I can't find an option to attach the dxdiag file so, included is the DXDIAG.But as I thought, there doesn't seem to be anything bad that I can see. Perhaps the 6600 GT is not good as DX8 based games? Runs CS:Source, BF2, and America's Army at higher rates frame than TC. From my old Q3 days, setting a cap just helped keep the gameplay smoother. ------------------ System Information ------------------ Time of this report: 10/17/2006, 21:56:13 Machine name: NICK-768FAD5C84 Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD System Model: K8T Master2-FAR BIOS: )Phoenix - Award WorkstationBIOS v6.00PG Processor: AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 244, MMX, 3DNow (2 CPUs), ~1.8GHz Memory: 2046MB RAM Page File: 177MB used, 2762MB available Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) DX Setup Parameters: Not found DxDiag Version: 5.03.2600.2180 32bit Unicode ------------ DxDiag Notes ------------ DirectX Files Tab: No problems found. Holy cow that's a honking long message! Sorry! I thought I should include the things I've tried. I've tried setting seta r_smp 1 to enable multi cpu support in the autoexe.cfg I've overclocked the 6600GT from 500 to 55Mhz and bumped the memory from 900Mhz to 960Mhz on the card. Disabled the AC97 onboard sound and gone back to my good old SB Live. Installed Audigy drivers to give me better SP2 support and improved EAX. Vsync is always set to disabled All other processes in the background have been shut down. And thanks for the suggestions so far! |

For extremely large posts like that, you can use a service like http://pastebin.com/ and post the link here. BTW, I use a Sparkle GeForce 6600 256MB AGP, and HERE are my stats. Might look a bit different since I am running Linux though. |
