desura seems to be like steam and moddb putted together with best parts of them.
auto patching, dlc, blogs, marketing and other cool stuff. mod/game page is very customable.

Well, I think I've now found an easy way out which requires little coding and gives the option for a number of alternative sights being used as addon on the individual weapons

as i understand from that he means that hes going to enable mp5 with acog and ak47 with aimpoint as example ?
updates like that could be also done easily and new dlc guns (as example sniper rifles).
small bug fixes and map dlc..... blog..... it actualy sounds quite good.
