Again, this is not the game for it. The official supported maps will always be close quarters as the name suggests. Why would this game need a map menu when its in close proximity? Literally close proximity. We aren't running through the fields here.
Requiring a menu map where you have to open it just to check where teammates are implemented towards games whose whole map is an objective. Games like Fallout 3, Operation Flashpoint, Vegas series, etc. consist of huge environments which would make sense to put these types of "menu maps".
The compass/radar can easily be the solution for this (which can be displayed on either top right or left):
